Machining the optical table

Machining the optical table

2014-05-26

To achieve mechanical stability for alignment of the laser resonator, the optical table is machined from a piece of 3/4" thick aluminium plate. The simplest way to build a laser projector on this scale is to reuse as many parts as possible from a commercially available system - in this case, ex-medical equipment used for laser surgery. Performing the necessary modifications in-house is faster and easier (not to mention cheaper) than documenting and outsourcing processes such as this.
