Weather can change quickly on the plateau. The conditions deteriorated whilst we were in the air, and our arrival was greeted with high winds and blowing snow. Here our pilots are helping to set up a large tent and to boil water before they have to leave. Tiny hexagonal ice crystals known as "diamond dust" float through the sky in a uniform orientation, giving rise to faint "sun dogs" on the halo at precisely 22 degrees. Photo courtesy of G.S.
